Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is to be mercilessly parodied in a one-off special of Channel 4’s sitcom ‘The Windsors’.

Actor Amit Shah, who played murdering pharmacist Faisal Bhatti in Happy Valley, has landed the role of the PM in the satirical Coronation Special.

In the plotline, the King and Queen, played by Harry Enfield and Hayden Gwynne, are planning a spectacular ceremony with pomp and circumstance.

But Sunak and Prince William, played by Hugh Skinner, believe that the coronation should be streamlined to reflect the rising cost of living.

‘I thought I was socially awkward until I had the chance of playing Rishi Sunak in The Windsors,’ joked Shah.

‘As well as making my hair turn grey (quite literally), I had the opportunity to work with one of my childhood heroes – Harry Enfield.

‘We both had a laugh about the fact that he had prosthetic big ears fitted to look like King Charles and I was cast as Rishi because of my big ears!

‘This is the closest I’ll ever get to being a multi-millionaire with a heated pool in my back garden.’

Another storyline in the satire will mock Harry and Meghan, who dithered about attending the Coronation on May 6 before announcing that Harry will come alone.

An on-set source described the Harry and Meghan debacle as ‘manna from Heaven’ for the writers.

The last hour-long episode of the show was five years ago when it aired a Royal Wedding Special to celebrate the marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Born in Enfield, north London, the son of an accountant and health food shop manager, Shah read drama at Staffordshire University.

He went on to train at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, graduating early so that he could begin rehearsals for Lloyd Webber’s Bombay Dreams.

The Windsors’ Coronation Special is coming soon to Channel 4 and All 4.
