Loyal Sussex fans have been patiently awaiting a new sighting of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s young son, Archie—but the couple didn’t bring their child along for their recent return to London for a fair and cautious reason.

According to Telegraph columnist Bryony Gordon, the Sussexes left Archie back in Canada—where the royal couple are currently residing—as a health precaution amid the coronavirus pandemic. The U.K. has close to 600 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of March 12, according to Public Health England.

“The decision to leave Archie behind in Canada came not out of petty spite, as reported in some areas, but out of concern for his health during the threat of a global pandemic,” reported Gordon, who attended the Duchess of Sussex’s final engagement as a working royal on Monday.

Though royal fans will have to wait a bit longer to see baby Archie, Meghan did provide brief updates on how she and Harry’s son is doing. According to the duchess, their now 10-month-old is “into everything” and attempting his first steps.
