Patrick Dempsey has been accused of leaving some members of the cast of Grey’s Anatomy with “PTSD” before his exit from the medical drama. The actor reportedly “terrorised the set” of the show ahead of his character Dr. Derek Shepherd being killed off in season 11, according to an unauthorised book about the series, How To Save A Life: The Inside Story of Grey’s Anatomy.

Grey’s Anatomy’s former executive producer James D Parriott claimed in an excerpt published by Hollywood Reporter that Patrick “knew he could stop production and scare people”.

Parriott said: “There were HR issues. It wasn’t sexual in any way. He was sort of terrorizing the set.

“Some cast members had all sorts of PTSD with him.

“He had this hold on the set where he knew he could stop production and scare people.”

Parriott also claimed Patrick didn’t want to be on the series anymore at the time.

He added: “The network and the studio came down and we had sessions with them.

“I think he was just done with the show. He didn’t like the inconvenience of coming in every day and working.

“He and Shonda [Rhimes, who created the show,] were at each other’s throats.”

Patrick stunned fans when he left Grey’s Anatomy in season 11, explaining he wanted to spend more time with his family.

The book, written by Lynette Rice, also included claims about Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo’s frustration with Patrick.

Another former executive producer who worked on the show, Jeannine Renshaw, claimed Ellen got frustrated with her on-screen love interest for not “working as much”.

She said: “She was very big on having things be fair.

“She just didn’t like that Patrick would complain that ‘I’m here too late’ or ‘I’ve been here too long’ when she had twice as many scenes in the episode as he did.

“When I brought it up to Patrick, I would say, ‘Look around you. These people have been here since six-thirty a.m.’ He would go, ‘Oh, yeah.’ He would get it.”

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Patrick for comment.

Jeannine went on to claim Patrick’s stint on the show came to an end when series creator Shonda saw his alleged misconduct on set.

She said Shonda gave the network an ultimatum, that if he didn’t leave, she would.

The actor’s character was then written off the show, meeting an untimely demise in a car accident.

“Nobody wanted him to leave, because he was the show. Him and Ellen. Patrick is a sweetheart. It messes you up, this business,” Jeannine added.

Despite the accusations, an anonymous crew member spoke out in the book to defend Patrick’s behaviour.

He claimed the actor felt isolated during his final season on the show.

“His behaviour wasn’t the greatest, but he had nowhere to go.

“He was so miserable. He had no one to talk to,” the person said.
