Amanda Owen lives on Ravenseat Farm in Upper Swaledale with her husband Clive and their nine children. Following the popularity of their Channel 5 show, Our Yorkshire Farm, the area is fast becoming a tourist destination and now the family’s neighbours have spoken out about what it’s really like to live in the area.

Patricia and Ronald Tyler live next door to the Owens and have been in their home for over two decades.

The couple, who are aged 66 and 74, have witnessed the family expand first hand over the years and described them as “fantastic neighbours”.

They said the family were always on hand if ever they needed them, something that is very important in such a remote location.

However, Patricia and Ronald, who moved to the area from London, have noticed that it has become more popular since their documentary first aired.

The former said more people were travelling to Swaledale hoping to catch a glimpse of the star of the show.

Amanda’s neighbour said: “She [Amanda] has got a huge fan base.

“We get people who come down and if she is closed they will travel miles to get home and then come back the next day.

“I think people just want to see her,” she continued.

Countryfile star Julia Bradbury has also shone a light on the rural area in the past.

“It all started when Julia Bradbury did one of her programmes down here and Amanda got to know her,” Patricia told Yorkshire Live.

“Now that she’s written her books and done everything, people come down a lot now.

“It’s almost like a pilgrimage,” she added.

Earlier this week, Amanda was seen making the most of the sunshine and warm weather by going for a swim in a local river.

She posted a set of pictures from her alfresco dip online, in view of her 168,600 Twitter followers.

The picturesque location caught the eye of several social media users, seeming to illustrate the couple’s point.

“Where is this please?” one person asked.

“May I know the location of this place please. It’s on my bucket list now to visit this summer,” another enquired.

“Swaledale, North Yorkshire. See you soon,” Amanda replied.

“Cannot guarantee sunshine but always stunning views and still plenty of space to be on your ownsome,” she added.

Our Yorkshire Farm airs on Channel 5.
