Singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge‘s 21-year-old son Beckett Cypher passed away due to an opioid overdose on Thursday, May 14.

The singer, who was scheduled to perform a Concerts From Home show, postponed the event due to the incident as her team revealed the news to the public by tweeting, “We’re sad to inform you that Melissa’s son Beckett passed away and there will not be a Concerts From Home show today.”

Beckett is survived by his older sister, Bailey Jean and parents, Etheridge and Julie Cypher, who parted ways in 2000 after having been partners since 1990. Beckett and Bailey were conceived through in vitro fertilization with musician David Crosby as the sperm donor.

“He will be missed by those who love him, his family and friends. My heart is broken,” Etheridge shared in a statement. “I will sing again, soon. It has always healed me.”
