Matt Baker, 42, stunned his The One Show co-host Alex Jones this evening when he told a story about a man unexpectedly gifting his wife Nicola Baker with flowers. The duo got onto the subject while discussing Valentine’s Day presents on the programme.

After watching a clip about the flower industry, Matt turned to Alex and said: “You love all that stuff don’t you?”

The Welsh TV personality then revealed she liked the idea of becoming a florist until Matt told her the downsides of the job.

She replied: “I fancied being a florist until Matt said, ‘No your hands would get really cold’ and now I’ve gone off it.”

Explaining his reasoning, the Countryfile star added: “You’d be up too early and your hands would be freezing.”

Matt then surprisingly revealed: “I guy gave my wife flowers at a shop she went to yesterday and they said, ‘We’re giving away flowers’.”

Taken aback by the news, Alex gasped and exclaimed: “What?”

Matt continued: “And he gave her this bunch, a beautiful bunch of these daffodils and sure enough, they were all locked up tight.

“Came down this morning, stormy weather, raining, and these beautiful flowers had come out and it was really lovely.”

However, the presenters then got into a bit of a disagreement when Alex teased Matt about the flowers, predicting they wouldn’t last long because they were given away for free.

She cheekily remarked: “They’ll be dead by the time you get home though!”

“No they won’t, no they won’t,” Matt hit back, as he insisted the daffodils would stay alive.

Elsewhere, Matt shared another rare story insight into his family life when he posted a nostalgic moment on Instagram.
