Lady Kitty Spencer, 30, got hitched to retail billionaire Michael Lewis, 62, at a lavish, no-expense-spared wedding in Rome at the weekend, but there was one notably absent guest.

Earl Charles Spencer, 57, Kitty’s father, wasn’t present at the nuptials which took place at a 17th century Italian castle.

A source close to the family told MailOnline that the bride and her dad’s relationship had “cooled” since his marriage to third wife Karen in 2011.

The insider said: “Kitty and Charles were very close when she was growing up, but their relationship has cooled and been more distant since his marriage to his third wife Karen in 2011.

“Charles recently suffered an injury and perhaps that will be the reason for him not travelling, but it is just easier for everyone that he is not there.”

Instead of her father, the niece of Princess Diana was walked down the aisle by her two brothers, Viscount Althorp and Sam Aitken, instead of her dad.

Diana's brother appeared to confirm his non-attendance at his daughter's wedding by posting an image to Instagram from the grounds of the Althorp estate in Northampton the night before the event.

The luxurious wedding was attended by her sisters Eliza and Amelia, former Strictly Come Dancing star Viscountess Emma Weymouth, and celebrity friends including Pixie Lott, Idris Elba's wife Sabrina and Made In Chelsea's Mark Vandelli.

Michael's three adult children from a previous marriage, who Kitty is said to have formed strong relationships with, were also in attendance.

Kitty wore five designer, custom-made gowns by Dolce & Gabbana for whom the 30-year-old is an ambassador.

To fit with the romantic theme of the dreamy setting of a 17th Century Italian villa, the dresses were impeccably designed to mimic the elegant location.

A number of guests were also dressed in the label and it is reported Kitty may have also worn the Spencer tiara, which Princess Diana wore at the age of 20 to her own wedding to Prince Charles, then 32, in 1981.

The Spencer tiara is a headpiece featuring diamonds in a floral design of tulips and star-shaped flowers.

Following the ceremony, guests are said to have been treated to a feast, a night of dancing and an extravagant fireworks display.

The nuptials come after days of celebrations, with the couple hosting a dinner at Galleria Del Cardinale in Rome on Friday evening.

Earlier in the week, Kitty enjoyed her hen do in Florence, from which she posted a number of snaps to Instagram.
