The 28-year-old rapper caused a stir when she revealed she held a nearly 40 person gathering on Twitter on Sunday morning, calling the occasion ‘lit.’
In the run up to Thanksgiving, health officials had warned Americans not to hold huge parties, amid fears that the holiday could cause an explosion in the number of cases of the virus.
Responding to a series of scathing fans comments, Cardi apologized saying: ‘Sorry my bad.’
The apology seemed to be halfhearted though, as she later went on to say that people were ‘trying tooo hard to be offended.’
The number of COVID-19 patients currently being treated in hospitals across the United States nearly doubled in the last month, hitting more than 93,238 over the Thanksgiving weekend, according to the COVID Tracking Project.

‘My bad’: After being taken to task by fans for holding a big gathering despite the warnings from medical experts, the WAP hitmaker insisted she hadn’t been trying ‘to offend’ anyone
Tone deaf: The rapper, 28, posted images of the get together to Instagram Stories and tweeted about it on Sunday, prompting a backlash from fans
‘Sorry my bad wasn’t trying to make nobody feel bad.I just had my family in my home for the first time and it felt so good & uplifted me. (sic)
‘I spent soo much money getting every1 tested but it felt worth it.I wasnt trying to offend no1 (sic),’ she wrote.
But in another tweet the WAP hitmaker went on to add: ‘People be trying tooo hard to be offended.I wonder how they survive the real world’ followed by a laughing/crying emoji.
Among those taking Cardi to task was one Twitter user who wrote: ‘So what actually was the purpose of specifying the amount of people at your gathering…Knowing that a lot of people couldn’t even be with their families.
‘All you could’ve said was you had a good holiday with your people…and I’m not even one to troll, but read the room.’
Another tweeted: ‘I can promise you it’s not worth it to everyone else who is affected by your poor choices aka the healthcare workers who you will run to when you’re sick.’
‘Sis I love you but anyone behaving this way during a pandemic deserves to be dragged,’ one user added.

The rate of hospitalizations – now at the highest level since the pandemic began – comes after weeks of rising infection rates nationwide, with 16 states reporting record seven-day averages for daily new cases on Thursday and Friday.
Doctors and health officials fear the US is in for a dark few weeks with cases and deaths expected to climb rapidly because of holiday gatherings and travel.
Dr Celine Gounder, a member of President-elect Joe Biden’s COVID-19 advisory board, offered a grave warning about forthcoming spikes on Saturday – after millions of Americans traveled for Thanksgiving against the advice of public health officials.
‘We fully expect that in about a week or two after Thanksgiving we will see an increase in cases first, then about a week or two later you’ll start to see an increase in hospitalizations, and then another week or two after that you’ll start to see deaths,’ Gounder told CBS News, noting that symptoms of the virus can develop up to 14 days after exposure.
‘Unfortunately, that means that many people who celebrated with family, with friends over Thanksgiving will find themselves in the hospital, in ICUs over Christmas and New Years,’ she added.
Nationwide 155,596 new cases and 1,189 deaths were reported on Saturday, bringing the totals to over 13.4 million and 266,594, respectively, as of Sunday afternoon. Daily figures over the past few days have been skewed by inconsistencies in reporting around Thanksgiving.
Health experts and politicians pleaded with Americans to avoid gathering for traditional communal Thanksgiving feasts this year, warning that socializing between households would accelerate the rate of community transmission and put even more stress on an already overwhelmed healthcare system.
Not impressed: ‘Sis I love you but anyone behaving this way during a pandemic deserves to be dragged,’ one Twitter user told Cardi
While Cardi shared that everyone invited to her home had been tested for COVID-19 beforehand, just because a test comes back negative doesn’t necessarily mean that person does not have the virus or won’t test positive for it in the coming days.
One of the rapper’s followers made the point that not everyone is able to even get tested.
‘Bragging about your large gathering during a pandemic to your millions of impressionable fans who do not have the money that you have to get rapid tests is irresponsible,’ they replied to her tweet.
This isn’t the first time Cardi has been called out by her fans for not seeming to take the pandemic seriously enough.
In October she hosted a lavish bash for her 28th birthday in Las Vegas with very few attendees wearing masks or social distancing.
