The curtain was lifted in 2020 when singer and now actor, Camila Cabello, announced she would star in the upcoming Cinderella film as the titular character. The new rendition of the fairy tale has an all-star cast including Billy Porter and Idina Menzel and is set to stream on Amazon Prime.
The outspoken celebrity uses social media to spread awareness and promote her perspective on different topics. But her social media post on Aug. 2, 2021, featuring her and fellow Cinderella cast and crew members caused a real buzz for her upcoming flick.
Camila Cabello promotes health and wellness on social media
In one of her TikTok videos, the artist talked about body image and how she initially felt when she was exercising outside in a park. Cabello’s video was seen after a slew of candid paparazzi photos surfaced online of her running.
“I was just running in the park minding my own business, trying to be fit, trying to keep it healthy, and I’m wearing a top that shows my belly and I wasn’t tucking it in,” she said to the camera. “Because I was running and existing like a normal person that doesn’t tuck it in all the time.”
Cabello has also promoted the Calm app to her followers. She introduced her series, “Breathe Into It,” on the wellness app. In one of her posts, she tweeted: “let’s de-stigmatize the conversation around mental health.”
‘Cinderella’ will be different from the classic fairytale
The 2021 movie will be a romantic musical comedy, featuring new songs. Menzel and Cabello both worked on original songs for the film and the soundtrack is expected to be released the same day of the film’s release on Sept. 3, 2021, via Amazon Prime Video. “This is it. Soon, everyone will know my name. ‘Dresses by Ella,’” Cabello is heard saying in the trailer.
The movie has been through a rollercoaster ride in terms of release dates and where it will premiere. At first, Sony scheduled the flick to hit theaters in February of 2021, then pushed its release back again. However, Sony then announced that it canceled the theatrical release and that Amazon Prime bought the movie, per Deadline.
Production was also suspended in March of 2020 because of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, but filming later resumed in August of that year in England. Cabello shared a photo on Instagram posing with her castmates in London on Feb. 10, 2020. “Some of the wonderful Cinderella cast,” she wrote.
What did Camila and the crew say about ‘Cinderella?’
To set the movie apart from other Cinderella remakes and renditions, Cabello posted a video of her and the production crew talking about the narrative of the classic fairytale. The short clip shows Cabello walking onto the set of the movie and saying, “You all know the story.” Next, crew members talk directly into the camera and paint the picture of how the princess narrative is typically told.
“Don’t be so dramatic,” Cabello says to the camera later in the video. As the camera jumps from each production member to the next, viewers can see how this rendition of the tale will be different from the original. The singer closes the promotional video by saying, “It’s time for a new story. The one we write,” with the word “we” indicating a story that women write.
The video then ends with the text: “A new kind [of] Cinderella has arrived,” and Cabello walking toward a car in high heels and starting the engine.
