Braid Paisley and wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley are best known for their chart-topping country songs and feel-good Hallmark movies, respectively. Now, the celebrity duo is making headlines for a different reason: helping people in need.
In fall 2018, they announced that they would be opening up a supermarket, aptly named “The Store,” where all of the products are free.
The couple teamed up with Brad’s alma mater, Belmont University, to open The Store in Nashville, not far from their home. According to the Tennessean, the modern version of a food pantry resembles a supermarket, and aims to offer fresh and nonperishable items.
Brad, who is the president of The Store’s board of trustees, called it “a grocery store with dignity for people who have fallen on hard times.”
“All of us are one unforeseen disaster away from rock bottom,” he told the Tennessean. “It’s nice to think about a place where when that happens to someone, they can use it to get back on their feet.”
Following the recent Tennessee tornados and the Coronavirus outbreak that’s affecting the entire world, many people have hit “rock bottom.” With that in mind, Brad and Kimberly stepped in to provide immediate assistance to those in need.
“Due to the hard work of many dedicated volunteers, partners and donors, The Store has been able to open earlier than anticipated,” Kimberly captioned an Instagram video of herself and Brad. “We can now serve the needs of the community beyond the initial scope of our original mission.”
In the video, Brad announced that The Store will offer a free grocery delivery service for the elderly members of their community who are at risk of becoming critically ill from COVID-19.
“They don’t need to be out,” Brad said, explaining that senior citizens can sign up to receive a week’s worth of free food.
