Batwoman actress Ruby Rose had undergone emergency surgery after a serious injury left her at risk of being paralysed.

33-year-old Ruby herniated two discs while performing stunts two months ago and the damage came close to severing her spinal chord.

The actress says she was left in "chronic pain" after the accident though she lost the feeling in her arms.

Ruby revealed the ordeal on Instagram , weeks before she makes her debut as Batwoman in the new TV series.

She shared a graphic video of surgeons working on muscle close to her spinal chord on social media, which many of her followers expressed their disgust at seeing despite the prior warning.

"To anyone asking why I let them video it…. Did you not watch that Greys anatomy episode where they left a towel in a patient??"

"Also I wanted to see what happens when we go under," said Ruby.

In the caption she explained: "To everyone asking about my new Pez dispenser scar on my neck… A couple of months ago I was told I needed an emergency surgery or I was risking becoming paralyzed… I had herniated two discs doing stunts.

"They were close to severing my spinal chord. I was in chronic pain and yet couldn’t feel my arms… Thank you Dr Bray for everything you did and for allowing me to keep working and doing what I love."

Among the well wishes, the husband of singer Pink, Carey Hart, responded to Ruby in the comments: "Dr. Bray did my L4&5 fusion 5 years ago!! He is the best."

Ruby replied: "He is seriously out of this world."
