Johnny Depp took to the stand to testify in his civil defamation case against his former wife Amber Heard this week – and the bombshell allegations keep on coming.
The 58 year old Hollywood actor married Amber in 2015, but they split acrimoniously only one year later, with the actress claiming the Donnie Brasco star had been violent towards her, filing for divorce and a temporary restraining order.
The feuding exes engaged in a war of words via the press, and when their divorce was officially finalised in 2017, Amber received a $7m settlement, which she pledged to split between a children's hospital she was a patron of and a domestic violence charity.
Aquaman actress Amber later penned a Washington Post op-ed about experiencing domestic violence, and while she didn't name the alleged perpetrator, Johnny launched a $50m libel lawsuit against her, claiming the article damaged his career and prevented him from getting roles.
The case is now being heard in a Fairfax, Virginia courtroom, with Depp taking to the stand on Wednesday – and OK! has rounded up some of the biggest and most shocking bombshells.
Johnny refers to Amber's Washington Post op-ed as "a hell of a story".
Acknowledging that the op-ed piece did not explicitly name him but insisted it alluded to their relationship, Johnny testified that he had "never assaulted" Amber.
"It was obviously referring to our relationship and to me," he said. "It was clearly about me.
"She talks about, in this section of the piece, the plight of women not just in Hollywood but in general… There were many things that I did not disagree with in terms of this part of the article."
Johnny continued: "I understand anyone's passion to right the wrongs that have been done for countless years against any being who suffered at the hands of domestic violence, be it women, men, children. That's something that, of course — coming from my background — I am very against any bullying of any human being and forced violence."
Johnny claims Amber has a "need for violence"
Johnny claimed that Amber's "violence erupted out of nowhere", prompting him to "what he did as a child – retreat".
Speaking of how their conflicts would escalate, he said: "It could begin with a slap, it could begin with a shove, it could begin with throwing a TV remote at my head. It could begin with throwing a glass of wine at my face. All in all, it was constant."
He claimed that the arguments would happen so often that he would begin recording them.
Johnny maintains that he never hit Amber
Maintaining that he has never responded with "unnecessary" violence, Johnny added: "Why would you hit someone to make them agree with you? I don't think it works."
The actor said he stayed in the marriage because his father stayed with his mother.
"I didn't want to fail. I wanted to try to make it work. I thought maybe I could help her. I thought maybe I could bring her around because the Amber Heard that I knew for the first year, year and a half, was not this opponent. It wasn't my girl."
Johnny recalls losing the tip of his finger during an argument with Amber
Johnny recounted losing the tip of his right middle finger during a severe argument with Amber in March 2015 while they were in Australia.
The argument, fuelled over a prenuptial agreement, would "springboard into unpleasantness and arguments", Johnny claimed.
He alleged that later when Amber "was nowhere around", he poured himself two to three shots of vodka – his "first taste of alcohol in a long time".
However, he claimed that when Amber emerged and saw him drinking, she began calling him a "monster" and threw a vodka bottle at him, which caused serious injury to his finger.
"I didn't feel the pain at first — what I felt was heat and something dripping down my hand. I looked down and realised that the tip of my finger had been severed, and I was looking directly at my bones sticking out and the meaty portion on the inside of your finger…" he said.
Johnny claimed that at that moment, he was the "closest he had ever felt to a nervous breakdown".
Johnny claims Amber would threaten suicide after arguments
Johnny claimed that he often would be prevented from leaving Amber as she threatened to take her own life "many times".
"Ms Heard had spoken of suicide on a couple of occasions, so that also becomes a factor," he said.
"That's always something that lives in the back of your brain and that you fear. Many times when I would try to leave, she would stop me at the elevator with the security guards, crying, screaming, you know, [saying], 'I can't live without you. I'm gonna die.' But you had to get out."
Johnny recalls discovering human faeces on bed after argument with Amber.
Depp claimed that when he had reached his limit, he wanted to end his marriage and retrieve his belongings at his shared residence with Amber while she was at Coachella.
However, his security guard Sean Bett advised it wasn't a good idea as he sent him a snap of "human faecal matter".
"I was shown a picture of what the problem was," he said. "it was a photograph of our bed, and on my side of the bed was human faecal matter… It was so bizarre and so grotesque that I could only laugh."
Depp alleged that Amber "tried to blame it on the dogs".
"They're teacup Yorkies. They weigh about 4 pounds each. The photograph that I saw — I lived with those dogs for many years. It was not the dogs… I didn't feel like I deserved that kind of treatment," Johnny added.
Johnny said his daughter Lily-Rose Depp wasn't at his wedding to Amber
Alluding to trouble in paradise from the early days of his marriage, the actor explained: "Lily-Rose did not come to the wedding.
"She and Ms. Heard were not on particularly great terms for several reasons."
Amber accuses Johnny of sexual assault
Amber's lawyer claimed Johnny sexually assaulted her in Australia after taking "8-10 ecstasy tablets" in the opening statements from the ex-couple's trial last week.
Amber's legal team alleged that this incident resulted in violence towards the actress, as her ex-husband "hurled bottles at her, dragged her, punched her" and then "penatrate[d] her with a liquor bottle".
Amber's lawyer Ben Rottenborn told the jury that Johnny has been on a mission to "humiliate" Amber for years.
"The evidence will show that for years, all Mr Depp has wanted to do is humiliate Amber, to haunt her, to wreck her career – that's what the evidence will show," he told the court.
Amber has filed a counterclaim of defamation against the Sweeney Todd star, suing him for $100 million.
The trial continues.
