Clickbait premiered on August 25 on Netflix and viewers are already binge-watching the series. The show is surrounded by mystery, leaving a lot of questions for fans to ask. With the show out now, some are wondering if it will be coming back for another season.
Will there be another season of Clickbait?
Clickbait season one follows the abduction of Nick Brewer (played by Adrian Grenier) and plays out like a whodunnit.
At eight episodes long, the story quickly unfolds to give the audiences all the answers they need on Nick’s fate and those behind his abduction.
However, as the season is relatively short, some viewers are hoping there will be more episodes to come in the future.
Yet, that seems unlikely for this particular Netflix show as when it was originally announced, it was confirmed to be a limited series.
That doesn’t mean a second season is impossible, but it does make it far less likely for Netflix to announce any form of continuation soon.
The streaming platform typically waits a few months before announcing more seasons after a show’s release.
If Netflix doesn’t make an announcement before the end of the year, it is a safe bet that Clickbait will remain a closed, self-contained story.
For fans looking forward to diving into the mystery, the complete season is available to watch now.
The official synopsis reads: “When family man Nick Brewer is abducted in a crime with a sinister online twist, those closest to him race to uncover who is behind it and why.”
The series has been created by Tony Ayres and Christian White, with the former being known for Nowhere Boys and the latter, Relic.
Grenier, who leads the series cast, recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about his excitement for the project, teasing viewers with what to expect from the series.
The star explained: “I’m project-focused, not necessarily quantity but quality.
“I’m always looking for the projects that are going to have a profound impact on people, the ways in which our most dangerous and uncontrolled impulses are fueled in the age of social media, revealing the ever-widening fractures we find between our virtual and real-life personas.”
Grenier also explained how the series is so much more than what it may first appear, going far beyond its whodunnit genre origins.
The star continues: “It’s a very curious series, at first blush, just on the surface, it’s a thriller; it’s a whodunnit.
“But really, the depth of it is exploring issues of identity, especially in the technology world. It’s really very interesting exploring what it’s like to be alive at a time of the internet, avatars, catfishing, all those things.”
The trailer also gives very little about the series away, only showcasing the basic premise of the show.
It shows the manhunt for Nick, using a lot of found-footage style filmmaking, playing into the themes of the show.
While a second series is unlikely, the show is bound to capture viewers’ attention as they try to figure out who exactly kidnapped Nick.
Speculation began as soon as the trailer dropped earlier this month, but all will be revealed by the eighth episode.
