Jeremy Vine, who fronts his self-titled show on Channel 5, opened up about his time on Strictly Come Dancing ahead of the release of his new book What Makes Us Human. The BBC Radio 2 presenter admitted he suffered a stress injury while taking part in the dance competition.
The radio and TV presenter, 56, appeared on the BBC One show in 2015 and was paired with Karen Hauer.
Jeremy explained that his time on the show was a “joy” for him but added it felt like he had just come out of World War One.
His comments come after the broadcaster confessed he had suffered an injury but it was never fully explained.
Addressing the incident, Jeremy said: “I think you’re always going to get stress injury.
“It was something that happened to my foot doing the Charleston. It wasn’t really explained.”
He added: “But some ligament that went across my ankle was getting swollen.”
The amateur dancer explained that there was a physiotherapist on hand to offer him medical assistance but added it’s not uncommon to feel a little worse for wear after the competition.
“By the end it’s like coming out of the First World War,” Jeremy remarked.
“It’s like a line of troops or like at the end of Fawlty Towers where all the guests have been injured.”
“You’re moving ahead by holding the shoulder of the person in front of you.”
He added: “It was an ankle thing but it didn’t cause me too much trouble.”
Jeremy added the bigger issue was having to lift Karen as he admitted it was “scary”.

He commented: “You’re so worried your going to drop them. It was really, really frightening.”
Jeremy, who is one of the UK’s leading broadcasters and presents the Jeremy Vine Show on BBC Radio 2, includes a weekly feature on his show that asks guests the question, “What Makes Us Human?”
Jeremy’s show editor Phil Jones came up with the concept where they invited prominent people to share their response to that question as they reflect on their own lives.
The landmark BBC Radio 2 series is now being published in a new book featuring essays from figures including Maureen Lipman, Prue Leith and Chris Packham to name just a few.
Speaking about the new book, Jeremy explained: “We had done the series on BBC Radio 2 and we ended up with so many great answers from people as diverse as David Attenborough, Sebastian Coe and Esther Rantzen.
“When we got to about 100 we thought we better start looking at compiling something.”
He continued: “We got to the point where we just wanted to do it. In the end, I’m not sure we ever found the answer. That’s the problem. I wish we knew what makes us human.
“What we found is we all think it’s different things.”
What Makes Us Human?: 130 answers to the big question with a foreword by Jeremy Vine (£20, Headline) is available August 19.
