Sophie, Countess of Wessex and Prince Edward’s children mostly stay out of the public eye. The young royals have only joined their parents for a small number of engagements.
When they do step out, an expert commented on what this has shown of Sophie’s parenting.
Lady Louise Windsor was born in November 2003 and James, Viscount Severn was born four years later in December 2007.
The children don’t have HRH titles which gives them more privacy in the family.
Protecting her children is something Sophie seems to find important, according to body language expert Judi James.
The Countess will be protective while still trying to give the young royals independence.
“Sophie’s body language with her children has always suggested a very proud and subtly protective approach from a mother keen to grow their confidence by setting her own strong example,” Judi told Express.co.uk.
“Sophie’s approach in public appears to be very hands-off.
“She often walks slightly ahead with an air of upbeat determination that should make her a role model for both her husband and her children.
“There are no signs of any fussing or anxiety and although she would be more tactile when they were younger, as the children have grown bigger she seems keen to allow them to be treated more as adults, joining in any fun like one of them.”
Sophie has been part of the Royal Family for more than 20 years.
But before this she lived a different life and had a successful career in public relations.
Being a senior royal involves many engagements and formal events but Sophie seems proud to show her children there is a more relaxed side to life, Judi claimed.
She continued: “Sophie shows what looks like a desire to prove to her children that royal appearances don’t all have to be solemn or formal.
“[One outing] picking up rubbish on the beach allowed the family to appear as equals with a common objective and to show their casual side.
“By joining in like one of the team rather than a Countess, Sophie introduced her love of more down-to-earth causes and behaviours that make her come across as one of the more accessible royals.”
Not only does she try to set a good example for her children, Judi concluded by saying Sophie always seems on hand to reassure them if needed.
The 56-year-old will do this by showing them the lighter side of life.
“She holds her daughter’s hand in a gesture of caring reassurance, Sophie steps out with confidence and enthusiasm, sporting a wide grin,” Judi said.
“She seems to have been teaching her children the more positive side of royal life, making it look like fun rather than a chore or a duty.”
