Former Yankees outfielder Johnny Damon has cut a deal following his embarrassing DUI arrest, according to a TMZ report.
Back in February, Damon was arrested for misdemeanor DUI while driving in Florida with wife Michelle Mangan-Damon. His blood-alcohol level was over .30 — nearly four times the legal limit — according to police.
In police body cam footage from the arrest, Damon, who appears to be slurring his words, told police he was drinking “a little bit” before he was pulled over. The officer told Damon while he was driving he left the lane multiple times and struck a curb. At the same time, Damon’s wife exits the vehicle, despite being told by the same officer to stay put, which results in a screaming match between her and police.
Elsewhere in the video, Damon goes through multiple failed field sobriety tests before an officer eventually slaps in him handcuffs, adding, “You’ve got big wrists.”
Hyman said his client agreed to a pre-trial diversion program that includes making a charitable donation, along with completing a designated number of community service hours.
Upon completion of the program, Hyman said, prosecutors agreed to drop the DUI case.
Damon played 18 MLB seasons in the MLB and spent most of his career with the Royals, Red Sox and Yankees. The two-time All-Star went on to win two World Series championships with both New York and Boston. Damon also played for the Indians, Rays, Tigers and Athletics.
