Ethan, from Duranbah, Australia, has spent his life getting tattooed and modifying his body, a process which started when be began stretching his ears at the age of 11. “I just didn’t want to look like everyone else,” he says. He has since had his entire body and face covered in tattoos, in addition to body modifications including tattooing the whites of his eyes and bifurcating his tongue.
“People look at it like me getting tattooed and modified has a deeper meaning than it really does,” he says. “At the end of the day, I do all this to my body because I think it looks cool, and that’s pretty much the bottom line.”
In a recent episode of the Transformed webseries, Ethan spends two and a half hours with makeup artist Suzi, during which time she covers up all of his ink, in order to surprise his partner Meg.
“I’ve only known him looking like this,” says Meg. “I can’t imagine him without tattoos, really.”
The process starts with Suzi applying a bright pink base layer to Ethan’s skin, then adding makeup that matches his natural skin tone. “I already feel kind of naked,” he says after she has covered up his arms. “It’s a lot nicer than getting tattooed.”
When he first sees himself without his distinctive body art, Ethan is taken aback, but quickly says that he prefers the way he usually looks—and fortunately, Meg agrees.
“He’s still good-looking, but I like him with his tattoos,” she says. “I wouldn’t change it.”
