Meghan Markle has missed out on becoming a British citizen, and will not pick up a passport either.
After stepping down as a senior royal in 2020, the 38-year-old Duchess of Sussex failed to complete the three years of living overseas requirement.
US Weekly is reporting that because of her and Prince Harry‘s decision to step down from their senior royal roles and relocation back to the United States, that Meghan is not eligible for either the passport or citizenship.
Meghan and Harry‘s relocation in March of 2020 was just before the three year mark.
Other requirements for citizenship for the UK include one of the following: an indefinite leave to remain, settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme, or a permanent residence document to confirm you have permanent residence status.
Meghan, Harry and their almost two-year-old son, Archie, have settled in Montecito, just outside of Los Angeles in the recent months.
