With the whole of the UK thrust into a second lockdown, there’s never been more need for Strictly Come Dancing to lift the mood of the nation.
If you know me, there’s no secret I love the show. This doctor has moves and the world needs to see them…
But while I await my call up, I’ve had the pleasure of getting some of our favourite Strictly stars ready to look their best on the small screen, from the competing celebrities to the professional dancers themselves!

Last week, I appeared on BBC1’s new Morning Live show with my friend and Strictly star Aljaž Škorjanec to talk about his battle with psoriasis and which new technologies in my clinic could help him (and you! One for another column…)
But this week, on my fifth instalment of Nips, Tucks and WTFs, I want to turn my attention to another patient and friend who’s now the latest Strictly hero – Nicola Adams.
She’s been stealing hearts and making history by becoming the first celebrity to dance in a same-sex pair. So when Nicola turned to me to help her look fab-u-lous alongside her pro partner Katja Jones, I knew I could not fail her!
I’ve actually been treating Nicola for a while now, even before the pandemic – as you can see from our photo from the pre-face mask era!
As a boxing champion you might not think Nicola has time for a skin regime, let alone much interest in one – but behind that baby-faced smile is a inner JLo ready to come out. She’s a girl who really knows what she wants when it comes to her face.

When she came to see me before filming on Strictly began, we feared another lockdown was looming – so it was time to box clever. We had to create a regime that would keep Nicola looking amazing throughout the next few weeks of Strictly, in case Boris asked for my famous clinic to close again, alongside so many others.
So with a few quick steps and a foxtrot, we hit on a winning routine for her to do just that…
Step 1: The deep cleanse
Whether it was going to be the Argentine tango or the rumba we knew Nicola would be working up a sweat! And unfortunately, the mix of sweat, stress, TV make-up and humidity creates the perfect storm for breakouts, so we needed to deep cleanse those pores and let her skin really breath with Hydrafacial sessions.
This treatment combines microdermabrasion (removing dead skin cells via exfoliation) and extraction of debris within pores, followed by deep hydration and finally LED light to calm the skin.
These can be had as often as fortnightly and results can last between 1-3 months.
Skin breakouts are commonly suffered as a result of wearing face masks – a condition known as “maskne” – so Hydrafacials can help you guys during the pandemic too. They’re not just for the Strictly dance floor.
Cost: £150-£200 per session
Step 2 : Fresh off the needle!
Dermapen is one of my favourite treatments at the clinic. It involves several needles going in and out of the skin at over 1800 perforations per second, while driving in a bespoke mix of vitamins! This helps to even out tone while tightening and brightening the skin, making sure Nicola’s complexion is always ready for her close up.
Cost: £350 per session
Step 3 : Food for the skin

So Nicola has great skin but the camera can bring out many of our imperfections and classically with black skin that tends to be areas of uneven pigmentation. To help this, we added the PH formula skin Mela pack to Nicola’s regime. The MD M.E.L.A homecare kit offers a complete skin resurfacing regimen for hyperpigmented skin, and is the perfect introduction to the pHformula HOMECARE prescriptions.
Cost: £150
Step 4: The bloody big finale
The final step – and one that may put the “wtf” into Nips, Tucks and WTFs – is where we use Nicola’s own blood to rejuvenate her skin! Known as PRP or platelet rich plasma, blood is taken from the patient then spun inside a centrifuge, separating the blood cells from plasma which contains many things including our natural growth factors.
Being the amazing athlete she is, Nicola will have plasma packed with growth factors and having these then needled into the skin gives amazing results. It’s a natural and safe way to boost skin for up to six months – making it the perfect partner for Nicola’s face!
Cost: £350
And that’s it for this week’s instalment. Next time we’ll delve into the routine of another Strictly favourites who comes to our star-studded clinic.
Cha cha cha til next time!
