Vanity Fair just reported some heavy news from the set of The Batman, the much-anticipated superhero movie starring Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, and Jeffrey Wright. Robert, the film’s lead, tested positive for coronavirus.

Warner Bros. released a statement this afternoon saying, “A member of The Batman production has tested positive for Covid-19, and is isolating in accordance with established protocols. Filming is temporarily paused.” The studio didn’t name Robert or reveal if he is experiencing symptoms, but Vanity Fair later confirmed it was him.

Filming began in January 2020, but when it became clear COVID-19 was a major threat to the health and safety of everyone, production halted. Only recently had they started filming again in England, and Robert tested positive three days after they resumed.

According to IndieWire, director and co-writer Matt Reeves “reportedly has another three months left to shoot on the movie, as he had about a quarter of it finished by the time the shutdown took place.”

In August, Robert made a surprise appearance during the virtual DC Comics’ FanDome event and told fans, “As many of you probably already know, we were in the beginning stages of production when COVID hit, so now I’m very anxious to get back to work and continue to form this beloved character. I’ve always been a massive fan.”

The Batman is currently slated for release on October 1, 2021.
