Former EastEnders star Cliff Parisi spoken out against the soap.

The 59-year-old actor, has criticised the miserable storylines of Albert Square.

The actor, who played Minty on the BBC soap, also joked that the plots have left him traumatised.

The former I'm A Calebrity Get Me Out Of Here star reckons the show lacks laughs and comic relief these days.

Cliff, 59, told The Mirror: "I had post traumatic stress on occasion after watching it."

Despite his honest qualms, the actor has praised the current stars of EastEnders.

The 'Call the Midwife' star also admitted it was "tough" working on the soap because there is very little time to film every episode.

He added: "I don't wanna slag it off because it's been brilliant to me.

"And it was really brilliant whilst I was there. I've always said there's room for a bit of a laugh.

"I think the best writers and some of the best actors I've ever worked with are in that show.

"It's a tough show to do, you've got to be on your game because the scripts come late and there's a lot to learn working on 12 episodes at the same time."

Cliff admits that he loves the soap, and he always will, but feels it could do with some more humour.

He explained: "I love it and watch it from time to time.

"But, I think it has lost its sense of humour in a way".

Cliff, who was in the show from 2002 to 2010 and is a regular in Call the Midwife, added:

Admitting that he would like to see 'normal' people and more realistic problems detailed on EastEnders, the star hopes that it will one day regain it's comic relief.

"Sometimes I just want to see Dot Cotton talking about the price of biscuits.

"We want to see normal people on occasion with normal problems.

"They have thrown people off roofs and buried people alive… I mean, come on."

Cliff's storylines in EastEnders involved forming a close friendship with Garry Hobbs and finding love with established characters Heather Trott and Manda Best. 

The actor made his final appearance on 21 September 2010.
