Ozzy Osbourne, who is battling Parkinson’s disease and dealing with additional health issues, has canceled his North American tour.
“I’m so thankful that everyone has been patient because I’ve had a s–t year,” Osbourne said in a statement posted to his website Monday night. “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to get to Switzerland for treatment until April and the treatment takes six-eight weeks.”
The tour had been scheduled to kick off in late May.
Last month, the 71-year-old rock icon revealed that he’d been diagnosed in February of 2019 with Parkinson’s, a progressive nervous system disorder with no cure.
During an interview with “Good Morning America” revealing the diagnosis, Ozzy’s wife, Sharon Osbourne, said they’d be traveling to Switzerland after exhausting their options in the US.
“We’ve kind of reached a point here in this country where we can’t go any further because we’ve got all the answers we can get here,” Sharon said at the time. “So in April — we’re going to a professional in Switzerland. And he deals with — getting your immune system at its peak.”
In addition to Parkinson’s, Ozzy has been dealing with the aftermath of a serious fall he took in 2019, which dislodged metal rods that were in place from a previous bike accident.
“I don’t want to start a tour and then cancel shows at the last minute, as it’s just not fair to the fans,” Ozzy said in his new statement. “I’d rather they get a refund now and when I do the North American tour down the road, everyone who bought a ticket for these shows will be the first ones in line to purchase tickets at that time.”
Ticket refunds are available at the original point of purchase.
Ozzy appeared in good spirits as he attended the Grammys in late January and presented an award.
