  • BRENDAN RODGERS has admitted he could “understand” James Maddison leaving Leicester to join Liverpool or Manchester United.

The 22-year-old has emerged as a top target for the Premier League giants following his impressive spell at the King Power.

When quizzed about the rumours, Rodgers said: “I've been fortunate that I've been at Liverpool where I understand the draw of that type of club.

“Liverpool and Manchester United are two of the biggest clubs by far.”

He added: “So whenever a player gets an opportunity to go to a club like that, to experience that type of pressure, that expectation – and of ocurse there'll be a financial side to it as well – that as a package in a short career is maybe something that is hard to turn down.

“I understand it, I get it.”

  • SHEFFIELD United part-owner Kevin McCabe is refusing to give up his shares in the Bramall Lane club despite losing a courtroom battle.

A High Court Judge ruled against McCabe and ordered him to sell his 50 per cent stake in the club to Saudi co-owner Prince Abdullah Bin Mosaad Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for just £5m.

But McCabe, who has been on the Blades’ board in a variety of roles for 25 years, has insisted he will not hand over his stake in the club at this stage.

  • BARCELONA prodigy Ansu Fati is set to pocket a £621,000 signing bonus when he puts pen to paper on a five-year deal.

But his salary will depend on whether he continues in the first team.

Reports in Spain claim Fati, 16, is set for a bumper pay-day after bursting onto the scene.

While he will rake in a monster fee for signing a new contract, his wage – what could be up to £20,000-a-week – will all depend on whether he can stick amongst the first-team.

  • HUGO LLORIS does not expect to finish his career with Tottenham.

The goalkeeper, 32, told France Football: “I do not think I'm going to finish [my career] at Tottenham.

“I still have a few years ahead of me. In any case, I will do everything to make the most of it.

“You also have to know when to say stop at the right time, but I'm not against the idea of discovering something new.

“That could be the United States. I do not know, I always had trouble looking in the medium terms. I am more focused on the short term.”
