MANCHESTER UNITED suffered another disappointing result after being held to a draw against Southampton ahead of the international break.
But their defence could have been much better had Jose Mourinho signed newly-crowned Uefa Player of the Year Virgil Van Dijk.

MARCUS RASHFORD claims football is moving BACKWARDS in its fight against racism.
The Manchester United striker said: “Nothing has really changed.”
Rashford was racially abused on social media last month after missing a penalty against Crystal Palace.
Old Trafford team-mate Paul Pogba and Chelsea pair Tammy Abraham and Kurt Zouma have also suffered sick online taunts, while ex-United striker Romelu Lukaku was the victim of vile monkey chants in Italy on Sunday.
Rashford said: “Things have been going backwards rather than forwards. To see it spike in the last couple of months has been unbelievable.
“We want to nip it in the bud while it’s happening but it’s tough. All around the world people have been standing together and that’s all we can do.
“We have to rely on campaigns to deal with the situation because our voice only has so much power.”
FORMER Man Utd striker Michael Owen believes that Marcus Rashford lacks the killer instinct of a natural goalscorer.
He told reporters: “I don't think scoring goals is what he goes to bed craving.
“I think it is overall performance, chipping in with goals, assists, everything. He is a better all-round player than me.
“He has a great touch and all round skill that I never had, but he hasn't got the killer instinct that I had. I was just obsessed.
“Players like Robbie Fowler, Sergio Aguero or Harry Kane – these people who are obsessed with goals. I don't think he is obsessed with goals.”
MARCOS ROJO has told Manchester United he will seek a January move unless restored to the side.
And the Argentine defender claimed Old Trafford chiefs blocked his departure for Everton during the summer.
He said: “It's difficult to leave when you are at a club as big as Manchester United.
“I had the possibility of joining Everton. However a deal couldn't be done because of decisions made by the club or the manager.
“Now it's down to me to fight for my first-team place until December – and if I can't get one I will seek to leave.
“The qualifiers for the Copa America are coming up, and I want to be involved.”
MANCHESTER UNITED have “made contact” with Paul Pogba’s agent to extend his contract, French reports claim.
The Frenchman’s agent, Mino Raiola, spent the summer explaining how the 26-year-old wanted a move away from Old Trafford.
Pogba even admitted he was seeking a “new challenge” as transfer speculation mounted with Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus understood to be interested in the midfielder.
However, despite clear interest from La Liga giants Real, no acceptable offers were tabled and, unlike Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, Pogba remained a United player.
According to L’Equipe Old Trafford executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has contacted agent Raiola to discuss a new deal for the World Cup winner.
