A woman gave the finger at a poster of kidnapped Israeli children while her hijab-wearing friend laughed and filmed it outside a Manhattan college.

Footage of Wednesday’s incident – involving two women who may be students at Baruch College in New York – was shared on X, formerly Twitter, last night.

One of the young women filmed the poster as her friend stuck up her middle finger in front of the camera before they both burst out laughing and walked away.

The incident happened outside the college in Midtown Manhattan and comes amid growing outrage over American students’ apparent gloating over Hamas’ attacks on Israel.

They laughed and recorded themselves before walking away

A fellow student caught them on camera and shared the footage online

They are yet to be identified but are thought to be students at the Baruch College in Manhattan

Jonah Corney, a fellow Baruch student who caught the incident on camera at 12.30 on Wednesday, said they ‘were “taking a picture for likes” while laughing and sticking up the middle finger to the billboard.’

He added: ‘These girls saw I was recording and walked away. After I ended the video the girl on the left turned around and said “if you’re going to record at least get a good shot.”’

He decided to share the footage online and captioned it: ‘I thought this mobile billboard truck was powerful because it prevented students from ripping down kidnapped posters. Caught an awful moment from two Baruch Students. #Israel #antisemitism #baruch #baruchcollege #nyc’.

The incident occurred on the corner of 24th and Lexington in Manhattan.

Speaking to DailyMail.com Thursday, Mr Corney said his ‘heart was shattered into a million pieces knowing I share classrooms with people who disregard human life like this.’

He added: ‘The posters highlight some of the war crimes committed against Israeli civilians.

‘I went up to the driver and told him that it was a great message and can bring awareness to the situation.

‘When I took out my phone to start recording I was met with complete shock. Two girls who attend Baruch College, were “taking a picture for likes” while laughing and sticking up the middle finger to the billboard.

‘Completely disregarding and mocking the innocent Israeli civilians who have been kidnapped.’

The women are yet to be identified and the College did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Mr Corney, who is a student athlete, alerted the College to the incident and sent an email to the President and Vice President demanding action be taken.

He said: ‘Today at 12:33pm I saw a mobile billboard truck displaying pictures of the innocent Israeli children that were kidnapped and taken back to Gaza – an act which is considered a serious war crime under the Geneva Conventions.

‘There have been many posters highlighting these war crimes that were torn down by students aligning themselves with the terrorist organization, Hamas. I thought a billboard was powerful as it could not simply be “ripped off of a wall”.

‘I decided to take a video of the mobile billboard truck on the corner of 24th and Lexington when two Baruch students started laughing and even went as far to stick up a middle finger towards the billboard.

‘I feel sick to my stomach as I’m typing this email and cannot understand how students at Baruch college can be so naive.’

Hostile protests conducted by Israeli and Palestinian supporters have erupted across college campuses

Dillon shared a flyer advertising the anti-Israel protest, which declared ‘solidarity with Palestinians breaking out of their open air prison’

It comes as tensions on US campuses continue to escalate in the wake of the Middle East conflict.

Last week pro-Palestine groups across America sparked outrage at their support for Hamas’ brutal attack that killed 1,300 Israelis, with tempers flaring from the other side as Israel launches retaliatory sieges on the Gaza Strip.

A pro-Palestine group, that has been designated as anti-Semitic by the Anti-Defamation League, is planned a ‘Day of Resistance’ across college campuses.

Students for Justice in Palestine was founded at the University of California at Berkeley in 2001 and counts over 200 chapters across the United States, Canada and New Zealand.
