THE under-fire policeman is now due to retire in December with a £154,000 pension.
He has been a policeman for 34 years.
Who is Sir Craig Mackey?
Sir Craig Mackey is currently the Deputy Commissioner of the Met Police.
The 56-year-old previously had chief officer posts with the Wiltshire and Gloucestershire constabularies and a specialist staff officer role in Her Majestry’s Inspectorate of Constabulary.
He was knighted in the 2018 New Year’s honours and was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal in 2009.
Sir Craig has also been awarded the Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
He has been widely criticised for failing to help PC Keith Palmer as he was stabbed to death in the Westminster terror attack.
Sir Craig remained in his chauffeur-driven car despite being close to the attack when Khalid Masood stabbed the copper.
He told an inquest he and two civilian members of staff had no protective equipment with them so they locked the car doors and drove away.
Will the Met chief lose his knighthood?
Insp Matt Webb, of the Sussex Police Federation, said his actions on that day were unforgivable and called for him to be stripped of his knighthood.
Writing in the Telegraph, Mr Webb said: "The reported actions of the Deputy Commissioner are in no way a reflection of the valour and sense of duty of the officers I work alongside, whom I represent, and who I am proud to call my friends.
"Neither do they mirror the countless acts of bravery shown by officers on a daily basis across the UK."
He went on: "When it becomes clear that someone – and especially a fellow officer – needs assistance, it does not matter in what position you find yourself. The whole ethos of being a copper is that it is the right thing to go to their aid."
Despite calls like those of Insp Webb it is unlikely he will have his knighthood removed.
Sir Craig said he remained in the vehicle with two civilian colleagues because they had no protective equipment or a radio.
He tried to get out of the car but was advised by an officer on guard at the site to leave.
