AMERICAN drug dealer Alpo Martinez has been killed after leaving his witness protection.

On the morning of October 31, 2021, Martinez was reportedly murdered in his neighborhood.

Who was Alpo Martinez?

Born on June 8, 1966, Alpo Martinez was raised in East Harlem, New York.

At the age of 13, Martinez reportedly got involved in the business of selling drugs. He quickly rose up the chain in Harlem, becoming one of the city's biggest dealers.

He later relocated to Washington DC, where he expanded his operations and met the man who would later become his bodyguard and alleged hitman.

On November 7, 1991, Martinez was arrested in Washington for selling drugs.

Among his charges were drugs, conspiracy to commit murder, and 14 counts of murder. To lower his sentence, Martinez became an informant and testified against the people in his circle.

Martinez was given a sentence of 35 years in prison, and was reportedly released in 2015 to the federal witness protection program.

What happened to Alpo Martinez?

On October 31, 2021, it was reported that Alpo Martinez was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in his neighborhood of Harlem, New York.

According to police, Martinez was hit multiple times in the chest.

The report allegedly states shots came from a vehicle passing by on West 147th Street, near Frederick Douglass Blvd.

The incident reportedly occurred around 3.30 in the morning, with Martinez being taken to the hospital shortly after.

OnSmash reported the news via Twitter, stating: "We do find it odd he wasn't wearing his bulletproof vest, which was seen frequently under his jackets in Harlem."

The outlet added that multiple sources who wish to remain unidentified confirmed he was hit while exiting a club.

Martinez, whose last known address was in Maine, was rushed to Harlem Hospital but couldn’t be saved.

A high-ranking police source said Martinez was in danger as soon as he returned to his old stomping grounds.

“You were in the witness protection program because you testified against other drug dealers,” the source said.

“You’d make a lot of enemies who have a score to settle,” the source said. “When you return to the same area, word will get out very fast. He’s back in the zone.”

The source, who said Martinez’s vehicle had paper plates from Texas, said it wasn’t clear if Martinez had left witness protection entirely or was just back for a visit.

What has Alpo Martinez been arrested for before?

Martinez was indicted on federal drug charges in July 1990 with two other men. The indictment against Martinez was dismissed when he remained a fugitive at the time their trial began November 1991.

According to the affidavit, Nathaniel Watkins (Rich Porter's Cousin), Martinez's co-defendant in the Alexandria, Virginia case, he told the FBI in 1989 he was present when Martinez gave $300,000 to a fellow drug dealer in a Crystal City, Virginia hotel room and instructed the man to take the money to New York.

Watkins told the FBI that the drug dealer rode to New York in a limousine, which he and his girlfriend followed, and they went to a Harlem apartment where they met Martinez, who had flown to New York.

Sherrille Gilbert, Nathaniel Watkins and several witnesses testified that Martinez was a supplier of crack and that members of the drug ring were involved in several killings.

On November 7, 1991, Martinez was arrested in Washington, D.C. for selling drugs. He was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, various drug charges, and 14 counts of murder, including the murder of D.C drug dealer Michael Anthony Salters aka Fray and Brooklyn drug dealer Demencio Benson.

Facing the possibility of either the death penalty or life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, Martinez turned informant and testified against members of his organization.

For his testimony against Perry (who received five consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole), Martinez was sentenced to 35 years in prison.

According to the website of Don Diva Magazine, 49-year old Alberto “Alpo” Martinez was released from a WITSEC FCI federal prison in 2015.

According to the website, Martinez was in the federal witness protection program awaiting a new identity.
