ELON Musk has renamed himself Lord Edge on Twitter.

Here is what we know about the sudden name change.

What does Lorde Edge mean?

Dictionary.com defines an edgelord as “someone on an internet forum who deliberately talks about controversial, offensive, taboo, or nihilistic subjects in order to shock other users in an effort to appear cool, or edgy.”.

Meanwhile, the Urban Dictionary states to be Edgy is “taking coolness to its extreme and generally beyond the realm of actual possibility, while at the same time seemingly unaware of how ridiculous it is”.

Why has Elon Musk changed his Twitter name?

The reasons behind Musk's new "Lorde Edge" Twitter moniker are unclear at this stage.

Some have speculated Musk's name change signals a big announcement is about to be made.

Brand marketing expert and social media pundit Scott Steinberg said it could actually be a play on "edgelord," — someone who affects a provocative or extreme stance.

Steinberg told Forbes: “Musk has shown himself to be quite the Internet provocateur – and this just shows the sheer level of attention played to his ability to do the outrageous.

"This highlights the influence he commands, and he is clearly having fun with it. He seems to have fun pushing buttons."

What has Elon Musk previously said on cryptocurrency?

Billionaire Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, often tweets about different cryptocurrencies.

When he does so, prices are seemingly impacted.

Several times throughout 2021, the price of an altcoin called shiba inu appeared to jump after Musk repeatedly posted images of his shiba inu puppy.

Earlier this year he claimed Bitcoin was slightly better than real cash.

The Tesla CEO explained in a tweet that the difference was only slight but implied the cryptocurrency was a better asset.

He said: “To be clear, I am *not* an investor, I am an engineer. I don’t even own any publicly traded stock besides Tesla.

“However, when fiat currency has negative real interest, only a fool wouldn’t look elsewhere.

Bitcoin is almost as bs as fiat money.

“The key word is “almost”.
