A BRIT dad who went missing while on holiday in Ibiza has been found dead floating in the sea.

Johny Doherty, 28, vanished from a rented villa where he was staying during a house birthday party for a friend two days ago.

His body was recovered by police divers around 9.30am this morning after a local spotted it floating in the sea off cliffs near Cap Martinet.

Earlier in the day search officials admitted they were considering the “strong possibility” Johny, may have suffered an accident on the cliffs near his holiday home.

His body is understood to have been found in Talamanca Bay, close to the area being searched and the villa where he was staying.

A search operation had been ramped up to become a major sea, land and air search involving sniffer dogs, police divers and a Civil Guard helicopter.

“Civil Guard divers recovered the body after it was spotted in the sea by a private individual,” a source said.

“The body has been taken ashore and will be transferred to the island’s Institute of Forensic Medicine for a post-mortem.

“The man’s dad has confirmed it is Johny’s body. It will be the post-mortem that can hopefully shed light on the cause of death.

“There is nothing at this stage pointing to the death being in any way suspicious but that is something the autopsy will look at.”

BODY IN WATER

Ten of his family members had flown out to join the search.

Sister Jordana said her brother was last seen between 6am and 10am and had vanished without his phone, wallet or passport.

“He left behind his phone, bank cards and passport. But he never goes anywhere without his phone," she said.

"He was in a villa that had been rented out for a friend’s party. It was assumed that he’d just gone to bed.

“But when people at the villa started getting calls from the UK asking them to check up on my brother, they discovered his bed had not been slept in.

"Johny had been drinking but he doesn’t appear to have warned anyone he was going to leave the villa for any reason."

Sister Jordana admitted today she was beside herself with worry as she urged anyone with information to contact police

Jordana described Johny as being from Glasgow, although he went to school in Rutherglen in South Lanarkshire.

“We reported him missing to the Civil Guard in Ibiza but at first they thought he might be out partying elsewhere," she said.

“Then they started taking things seriously on Tuesday and started searching for him near the villa."
