This is the touching moment a United Airlines pilot asked his Newark-bound passengers to thank those among them who were headed to the tri-state area to help in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

“I’m Capt. Jim Crail. I’m going to be in command of United Flight 2453. It is running nonstop service to beautiful Newark. I’ll be joined by First Officer Brian McCasey,” he tells his passengers at the gate at Washington Dulles, KXNET reported.

“Brian and I have wives who are nurses and I understand that we have quite a few folks who are going to get on this airplane to travel to the tri-state area to volunteer to help as medical professionals,” he continues.

“I’d like to ask all of you to please stand up. I know my wife would be totally embarrassed if I ask them to do that,” he says, his voice cracking. “On behalf of everybody in the tri-state area, the rest of the country and United Airlines, I really, really appreciate and thank you for what you are willing to volunteer to do.”

On Sunday, Crail posted on Twitter: “It was my personal honor for me and my crew to take those brave folks into the heart of the battle against COVID-19.”
