‘Keeping Christmas in the family’: Twitter users mock Clintons for its festive faux pas after it missed out a VITAL word on greetings card
- Grammar leaves open the possibility card-giver is in a relationship with sibling
- As Twitter user Joe, 26, first pointed out, the word ‘his’ is needed to clarify
- Amused tweeters piled in and said it was tapping into the ancient Roman market
Clintons have been dealt a thorough ribbing on social media over one of their Christmas cards which is addressed to ‘my brother and boyfriend’.
The clumsy grammar leaves open the possibility the card-giver is in a relationship with their sibling, which could result in a rather awkward family dinner this festive season.
As Twitter user Joe, 26, pointed out when he first shared the festive faux pas, the word ‘his’ is needed to clarify the gifter and his brother are not incestuous.
Amused tweeters seized upon the blunder and flooded the post with hilarious reactions.

Several hailed the card for finally catering to the ancient Roman part of the market – a people who were believed to have romped members of their own family
Several hailed the card for finally catering to the ancient Roman part of the market – a people who were believed to have romped members of their own family.
One person wrote: ‘At last a range of cards for the Roman imperial family. Is there one for “my husband and uncle”?’
Sticking with the same historically-rooted incest theme, Paula Fusco said: ‘Lots of love, Cleopatra.’
And some made jokes about hit TV series Game of Thrones’s Lannister clan, where character’s Cersei and Jamie – twins – have a lust-filled relationship.
Others poked fun that Clintons were ‘keeping Christmas in the family’.
But despite facing ridicule, a small punctuation gaffe is by far the least fretful event to hit the card company this year.

At the start of the month, 2,500 Clintons employees were bracing for Christmas redundancy as the company fought to stay afloat after a dismal year of sales.
Suffering a squeeze from online competition, the high street retailer’s recent finances have been flagging and threatened to sink the store entirely.
But earlier this month it went into administration before being immediately sold to Esquire Retail – a new firm set up and controlled by the Weiss family, which has owned Clintons for seven years.
Although the Weiss family still face an uphill struggle to revive the fortunes of the cash-starved card company, the deal safeguards its 2,500 employees and 334 stores throughout the festive season.
