President Trump on Monday ripped Mayor Bill de Blasio as a “communist” and a “fool” who’s transformed the Big Apple into a lawless city of homelessness and violent crime.
“He’s a socialist, communist, maybe he’s a fool,” the president said in an interview on “Fox & Friends.” “He got rid of some of the most talented policemen that there are in the world. And that includes looking for very bad things beyond New York.”
Trump pointed to the surge in gun violence the city has grappled with since the NYPD dismantled its anti-crime unit. From Friday through Sunday, 51 victims were shot in 40 separate incidents across the five boroughs.
“Look at the shootings,” Trump continued. “When I left New York four years ago, New York was — I could see the seeds of this because he’s been a bad man but New York was good, it was OK. It all happened recently, it all came together.”
He also pointed to the return of the infamous “squeegee men” and homeless encampments as signs the city has gone down the tubes — while praising his attorney and former Mayor Rudy Giuliani for a job well done.
“He did stop-and-frisk. He took guns away from bad people. Now if you take a gun away from bad people, oh, you gotta, you know they sue you,” Trump said. “It’s so crazy what they’ve allowed to happen.”
Trump’s de Blasio bashing came hours after he threatened to send in the feds in response to the city’s recent crime wave.
City Hall spokesman Bill Neidhardt attacked Trump for the threat.
“This tweet comes just a few hours after an RT by the president calling to ‘leave Democrat cities. Let them rot,’” Neidhardt tweeted. “The only thing rotten is Trump’s mind.”
The mayor did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
