SHOPPERS were evacuated after a "serious threat" to Telford Shopping Centre – with specially trained officers searching the town centre.
Cops rushed to clear the Shropshire town centre after the anonymous threat was made over the phone this afternoon.
The area around the shopping centre was cordoned off and specially trained officers were called in.
West Mercia Police said: "As a precaution, a cordon has been put in place and the shopping centre and town centre is being evacuated.
"A thorough search of the area is being undertaken by specially trained officers."
Superintendent Edward Hancox, said: "I understand Telford Shopping Centre is a busy place, especially during the summer and school holidays, and that this threat may be alarming for visitors.
"I would urge visitors to stay calm and follow the advice of officers in the area, who are there to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you.
He added: "Thank you to all the visitors who have already cooperated with our officers, it is much appreciated and a huge help in situations like this."
And two hours later, the force confirmed the search had been completed – with nothing suspicious found.
A spokesperson said: "Our searches of Telford Shopping centre have been completed and nothing suspicious was found, and the Balloon Fiesta will go ahead as planned.
