Patrick Morran, 80, died at his home on Saturday in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire

Two teenage girls who were arrested on suspicion of the murder of an 81-year-old man will face no further action, police have said.

Officers were called to an address in Wisbech on Saturday after Patrick Marron suffered a cardiac arrest.

He died at the scene and detectives initially said his death was ‘unexplained’.

However, Cambridgeshire Police said today that a post-mortem examination has now been carried out and it concluded that the pensioner died from natural causes.

The force said no further action will be taken against the girls, aged 14 and 16, who were arrested as part of the investigation.

A 12-year-old girl and a man of 20 were also arrested in connection with the incident and were released with no further action earlier this week, police said. A file is being prepared for the coroner.

Neighbours described Mr Marron as an ‘absolutely fantastic’ grandfather who had lived alone.

A friend of the family said: ‘His wife, Ann, died from cancer three years ago. She was still working as a carer when she passed.

‘Pat had a great sense of humour and I’ll always remember this – he loved walking his cats down the road.’

Tributes have been left outside his home. Locals say he often had neighbours in for a cup of tea

The semi-detached property was both taped off by police earlier this week
