Straphangers jumped onto the subway tracks after a man fell from a platform in Brooklyn Thursday — while a train operator slammed on the brakes just in time to avoid hitting the guy.
The near tragedy occurred at 8:06 a.m. Thursday morning at the 36th Street station, when the conductor saw a man teetering near the edge of the platform and pulled his brake, the agency said.
A photo posted to Twitter showed the exemplary citizens on the tracks, helping the man back up to safety.
“8am… #MTA 36th Station in Brooklyn, just as train pulled in. Train stopped right away, thankfully,” tweeted @tweetohms.
First responders later took the man to the hospital, an MTA spokesperson said — although the FDNY and NYPD said they were not involved.
The train returned to service within six minutes of the incident, the agency says.
