He admitted ‘unlawfully and maliciously’ wounding former soldier David Beech during the incident.
War hero Mr Beech was glassed attacked in the face in March 2018 at the White Hart Hotel in Dartmoor, Devon.
One of the bar staff explained they would not serve Shepherd and his friend any more alcohol due to them being heavily intoxicated and asked them to leave.
As he ushered the men out of the hotel, Shepherd took a litre bottle of vodka from his back pocket and struck the barman over the head causing the victim to fall to the floor.
Another member of staff struggled with Shepherd in an attempt to protect his colleague.
The attack on Mr Beech was captured on CCTV and immediately reported to Devon and Cornwall Police.
Officers arrested Shepherd and charged him with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
But he went on the run after the speedboat case, failing to appear at Newton Abbot Magistrates’ Court in June 2018.
Helen Phillips, from CPS South West, said: ‘This was an entirely unprovoked act of violence. The victim was working at the hotel when two drunk men entered. When he asked Shepherd and his friend to leave, Shepherd struck the victim hard to the forehead with a glass bottle, leaving him unconsciousness with a large swelling and a cut to his head.
‘Due to the strength of the case and the evidence secured Shepherd was left with little choice but to own up to his actions and plead guilty to this charge.’
Two years earlier, womaniser Shepherd killed Miss Brown, 24, on their first date when his boat overturned while he was drunkenly showing off to her on the Thames in London in December 2015.
He went on the run ahead of his July 2018 manslaughter trial which went ahead at the Old Bailey. He was sentenced to six years in prison in his absence.
