A man has died after he was bitten by a snake in the Lockyer Valley, about 50 kilometres west of Brisbane.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said they received a call at 9.53am and the man, aged in his 60s, was dead by the time paramedics arrived.

While the snake species had not been confirmed, the caller indicated it was an eastern brown.

There was no sign of the snake when they arrived at the Kensington Grove address, she said.

“Apparently [the bite] happened some time before we were actually called,” the spokeswoman said.

She said the snake was not still present while paramedics were on the scene.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said a report would be prepared for the coroner.

Comment has been sought from Lockyer Valley Regional Council.
