Half-open for business! Customers trying to shop at Poundland have to CRAWL underneath the security shutter after it gets stuck
- Passers-by filmed the bizarre events at the store in St Albans, Hertfordshire
- The company left notes taped to the door advising that it was still open
- Many customers did attempt to shimmy under but others decided against it
Customers trying to shop at Poundland were forced to crawl underneath the security shutter after it got stuck during opening.
Several passers-by caught the bizarre events on camera at the store in St Albans, Hertfordshire, on Sunday.
In the footage, pedestrians can be seen walking past the shop front which still has most of its security shutter rolled down, leaving only a small opening along the bottom.
As one enthusiastic man shimmies under the roller door to get into the shop, many other potential customers hesitate as they read the two signs taped to the outside.
One note reads: ‘Dear customers,
‘Our shutter is broken, we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused, we will open today as soon as the problem is fixed.
‘Thank you.’
A handwritten addition at the bottom reads: ‘If you can crawl inside, we are still open!’
The second printed sign echoed this sentiment and reads: ‘We are still open, just crawl in! Mind the head.’

Gradually, more customers are seen attempting to get underneath the metal screen.
An elderly gentleman rests his left hand on the shutter door as he lowers himself toward the ground.
With both knees on the pavement he then slowly crawls under and into the shop on the other side.
As another family approach the scene an onlooker shouts: ‘Excuse me, that is his bag if you wanted to pass him it.’

Crowds continue to gather and one woman even sends one of her children under the jammed door to fetch a staff member that she could speak to.

Craig Shepheard, who recorded the footage, can be heard commenting in the background throughout on the situation.
After chuckling, he says: ‘Poundland is actually open today but their roller shutter door is stuck so customers have to crawl under in order to be able to get into the shop.’
Poundland has been contacted for comment.
