An air search began on Tuesday and is expected to continue when conditions improve on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday morning, no missing person reports relating to the items found had been received by police.

South Coast police say there have not been any reports of divers in distress and say it’s possible the gear fell off a boat or was lost inadvertently.

The equipment included a green railgun and spear, a GoPro 4 camera attached to an orange buoy, a black fish bag, an LED torch and red croc-style shoes. The items were tied together.

Police have reviewed images on the camera’s SD card and believe the owner of the gear may be a man of Asian appearance, about 20-30 years old and of a slim build.
