Rescue Rottweiler called Jack saves its 69-year-old owner from potentially fatal diabetic coma after being ‘best man’ at his wedding
- Chris McCarron, from Motherwll, was nudged awake by his dog jack on Monday
- Jack had pawed at his arm until he came round and he was rushed to hospital
- The life-saving pooch was also the grandfather’s best man at his wedding
A 69-year-old pensioner is lucky to be alive after his rescued Rottweiler saved him from slipping into a diabetic coma three times.
Chris McCarron, 69, was nudged awake by his dog Jack – who was best man at his wedding – after his body became dangerously low in blood sugar on Monday.
The grandfather, from Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, said Jack had wandered into the bedroom he shared with wife Margaret, 56, after he didn’t wake up for their morning walk.

The quick-thinking dog then pawed at his owner’s limp arm hanging off the side of the bed until he came round, the Daily Record reports.
‘I woke up in a daze to Jack’s face. I tried to go to the toilet and felt as if I was drunk,’ Mr McCarron said.
The grandfather-of-five was rushed to hospital after his blood sugar levels tested a dangerous 2.9 and he stayed for two days.
‘Doctors told me that if I had been left much longer I easily could have died. Normal blood sugar levels should be around seven so I was dangerously low,’ he said.

It was at the shelter that the pensioner met fellow divorcee Margaret and the pair hit it off. Their love soon blossomed and they married this year, with jack as the best man
‘Thank goodness for Jack,’ he added
Rescue dog Jack had saved his owner’s life twice previously after alerting him to get help.
And the incredible pooch – who was once a guard dog for a tennis court – has not only saved Mr McCarron’s life, but has also helped him find love.
Christopher adopted Jack after the death of his son, Chris Jnr, 43, who died three years ago following heart problems.
In the wake of his son’s death, Christopher, who had sold his business and got a divorce, hoped that getting a dog might help him recover from his grief.

The mostly well-behaved Rottweiler sat quietly through the short ceremony, wearing a mini tuxedo attached to his collar, while Christopher held his lead.
And the pooch even sneezed when Christopher said ‘I do’.

Christopher said: ‘We had a lovely sentimental day, and Jack played a big part. He loved it, he really did. I wouldn’t have considered getting a rescue dog because of his age – he’s around six.
‘But when he went up to me, we just clicked. Little did I know that I’d meet my future wife at the rescue centre too.
‘I don’t believe that I rescued Jack – I think he rescued me. When we decided to get married, Jack had to be there.’
