PRINCES William and Harry have been in contact but relations are still strained ahead of the unveiling of Diana's statue, a royal source says.

The dukes are said to have an "unspoken agreement" to put their differences aside for tomorrow's event at Kensington Palace.

Royal sources have confirmed that the relationship between the brothers is "incredibly strained" after they haven't spoken at length for months – apart from a brief chat at Prince Philip's funeral.

One royal source told The Mirror : “They (William and Harry) have been in contact but, to put it mildly, the situation remains incredibly strained.

“The ceremony should be and will ultimately signify a coming together for the right reasons.

“This commemoration has been a long term project for both William and Harry and both of them are adult enough to put any feelings to one side to ensure the day goes off without a hitch.

“Certain things don’t need to be said, it’s an unspoken agreement to do what is right in that moment, just as they have said before, this is about their mother’s life and celebrating her legacy.”

William, allegedly told friends: “I’ve put my arm around my brother all our lives and I can’t do that any more; we’re separate entities.”

The Duke of Cambridge will make a separate speech to Harry at the scaled-down ceremony.

Members of the Spencer family will attend the event, including Diana's brother Earl Spencer and her sisters Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellows.

A source close to the Spencer family said: “It is very much hoped that this celebration of Diana’s legacy will bring Princes William and Harry together again.”

Prince Harry was pictured for the first time since arriving back in the UK after isolating at Frogmore Cottage.

The feuding brothers are set to sit down behind closed doors on Thursday after the unveiling of the mum Princess Diana's statue at Kensington Gardens.

He landed in London on Friday so he can leave his quarantine 24 hours early and attend the WellChild Awards as a "surprise" guest.

The royal was pictured arriving at the event in Kew Gardens in London this afternoon.

He looked tense and deep in thought as he was driven into the event in a Range Rover.

At the event he spoke about having two children for the first time.

Ed Sheeran, who was also at the ceremony, compared notes with Harry after becoming a dad for the first time last year.

When asked by Ed, “How do you manage with two?” Harry replied: “Two is definitely a juggle.”

Speaking to another guest, Harry was heard saying: “We've been lucky so far, she's very chilled and seems happy to just sit there while Archie is running around like crazy.”

The event, which celebrates inspirational young people living with serious illnesses and those who go the extra mile while caring for them, was originally scheduled for September.

However organisers changed the date to allow Harry, who has been the patron of WellChild since 2007, to attend after learning he would be in the UK.

The ceremony took place at Kew Gardens this afternoon with Harry front and centre.

A source said: “WellChild is a charity that is very close to Harry’s heart and the organisers have moved heaven and earth to make this happen.

“His attendance was kept a complete secret and it was an amazing moment when he surprised those in attendance.

“Harry made sure he spent time talking to as many of the children and their families as possible – as well as care givers who were present at the ceremony.

“It was an enormous success and it could not have gone better.”

The Sun previously revealed how Harry was “furious” to lose his royal patronages and military titles after quitting royal duty.
