The Age asked prominent Victorians to reveal their favourite places and activities of the summer holiday season.
Today’s instalment comes from singer/actor Marina Prior, who is appearing in Mary Poppins at Her Majesty’s Theatre from January 29.

What does Melbourne/Victorian summer mean to you?
Melbourne summer means elation at enjoying glorious warm sunny days, accompanied by the sound of the tennis on the telly, followed by outrage at how cruelly cold and miserable it is a day or so later. The roller-coaster ride of our weather is not for the fainthearted!

First place you take visitors?
For a walk out the back of our place to visit the kangaroos (especially if they’re from overseas), then a sunset drink at one of the great wineries in the Yarra Valley.

Secret spot you escape to?
My secret spot isn’t very secret, being the Mornington Peninsula, or down to the Warrandyte river for a picnic.
The best summer food is …
A bucket of prawns and some fresh oysters with a cold glass of wine.
Prawns go down nicely with a glass of wine..
I know it’s summer when I smell …
Jasmine. If I could still get it, then the most evocative smell would be Coppertone suncream in the bronze bottle with a green lid. The smell of my every childhood summer.
My favourite summer song is…
Blue Bayou by Linda Ronstadt.

The worst thing about summer is …
My lack of melanin thanks to my Irish/Scottish heritage, which means constantly covering up and hiding from the sun when I long to bask in it!
Guilty pleasure?
Spending all day doing nothing but lazing under an umbrella and binge-watching a great series.
