A female shop worker is battered by a thief with a baseball bat in a shocking attack that has left her fighting for her life.
The incident was caught on CCTV in a sports shop in Navojoa, in the north-western Mexican state of Sonora, and posted on Facebook.

Elvia lies dazed on a work-surface, barely conscious, but Martin pushes her aside as he goes behind the till.

The clip cuts to a different CCTV camera – which shows the incident from behind – and the full force of the strike.
The suspect was arrested by the police, according to local media, after he hailed a taxi and the driver recognized him from the video that had been shared on social media.
The clip was originally posted online by the victim’s son Raul Fernando Gzlz, who captioned the post: ‘Urgent. I need your help to identify this man who assaulted my mum, leaving her hospitalized in a critical condition.

‘I ask for your prayers so that she can recover from the multiple operations.’
State prosecutor Claudia Indira Contreras said: ‘We are aware of the events surrounding a woman who was injured in a sports shop after being attacked by a man with a baseball bat and who is still fighting for her life in hospital.
‘Following an initial investigation, a suspect has been arrested.’
Reports said that the man is being held on suspicion of carrying out the attack and has been charged with attempted homicide.
Meanwhile, the victim is still fighting for her life in intensive care.
She has survived a ten-hour operation but is still critical with swelling to her brain, according to a GoFundMe update by her son.
The investigation is ongoing.
