A mother of two had to have parts of her feet amputated after being cut by a pair of scissors at a hair salon.
Lisa Scarborough had half her left foot amputated, and lost all her toes on the right after the pedicure at La Mer Nail Salon in Melbourne, Florida, went wrong.
A subsequent infection caused Scarborough to go into shock.
She fell into a coma, with surgeons forced to amputate parts of her limbs after they went black and died due to lack of blood flow.
Scarborough was so delirious she is convinced she heard her dead brother talk to her.
She explained: ‘He was saying to my mother “Lisa’s coming mom.”‘
But Scarborough managed to pull through, and is now learning to walk again.
She says she wanted to get better to ensure she could care for her children again.
And despite the severity of her injuries, Scarborough was this week told by a judge that the salon does not have to pay her any compensation after the horrific accident.
That is had insurance which does not cover the actions of its employees – including the scissor slip – making it impossible for Scarborough to sue for negligence.
Scarborough told WESH that her own lawyers have advised her against trying to push further for compensation.
Legal expert Michael Kahn, who did not work on Scarborough’s case said: ‘It’s a tragedy.
‘How would she know to ask whather what their insurance policy covers?’
La Mer has refused to comment on the incident.
