Horsing around on the BART! Pony called Sweets takes a ride on a train in San Francisco

• Sweets, the mini horse, was allowed on commuter train with her owner Tuesday
• Horse serves as her owner’s service animal, according to transit agency BART 
• In a tweet, BART said owner provided paperwork to a Rockridge station agent stating that the horse was a service animal 

Sweets, the mini horse who lives in California, was allowed on a commuter train alongside her owner because she’s a service animal. 

According to BART, which provides train service throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Sweets’ owner had the appropriate documentation needed to get her on the train at the Rockridge station on Tuesday. 

In a tweet, BART wrote: ‘This mini horse is a service animal, and the owner provided paperwork to a station agent stating so.’

Photos of the well-behaved mini horse that were taken by other commuters quickly made their rounds on social media

‘After consultation (station agents usually don’t see horses), the horse was allowed in,’ the tweet reads.

‘Trained service animals assisting people w/ disabilities and on leash are welcome on BART,’ the transit agency added. 

Sweets and her owner were on their way to San Francisco from Oakland when they boarded the train.  

Photos of the well-behaved mini horse that were taken by other commuters quickly made their rounds on social media. 

‘Forget emotional support dogs… in SF we have emotional support MINI HORSES,’ one person tweeted.

Another wrote: ‘BART had a major delay tonight but I would do it all over again if I could see this pony.’ 

Meanwhile, others poked fun at the horse being allowed on the train. ‘This is awesome news. I will now push forward and complete my paperwork for my trained service buffalo,’ one person wrote

Since the American With Disabilities Act was revised in 2010 to recognize miniature horses alongside dogs as service animals, there has been an increase of mini horses serving in this capacity.
