A MASS brawl at a Butlins holiday camp left a man dead— after he was floored with a single blow.

Cops said the 52-year-old man hit the floor after being punched at the holiday destination in Bognor Regis, West Sussex.

The fight erupted on Friday night but the victim, from Bedford, died in hospital in Brighton on Tuesday.

A 31-year-old man from Wandsworth, London, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and bailed until July 13.

Det Chief Insp Andy Wolstenholme, of the Major Crime Team, said: “A fight at a holiday park, which involved several people, sadly resulted in the death of a man.

“We extend our sympathies to his family and friends at this difficult time, and are providing support with specialist officers.

“The bar was very busy at the time of the assault and we believe many of those present would have witnessed the assault and the aftermath.

“We have spoken to some witnesses who were present at the time, but we would be keen to speak to anyone who hasn’t yet made contact with us.
“We arrested a man immediately after the assault and enquiries are ongoing.”

Bognor Regis Butlins was opened in 1932 by Canadian entrepreneur Billy Butlin and now has nearly 400,000 visitors a year.

The company, which also has sites also in Skegness and Minehead, became famous for its Redcoats, including Des O’Connor, Ted Rogers and more recently Stephen Mulhern.

A number of films were shot at the Bognor Regis site in its 60s heyday, including The Beauty Jungle, in released in 1963, and The Leather Boys, in 1964.

It underwent a dramatic refurb in 1999 and the 6-acre site was reopened by pop star Ronan Keating.

The park also became a favourite of Big Brother star Jade Goody and she visited shortly before she died in 2009.

The man who died has not yet been named by police.
