LORD Patten’s son-in-law is facing years behind bars for acting as a getaway driver in a shooting.
Elton Charles, 51 — who is married to the ex-Hong Kong governor’s daughter Laura, 48 — took part in a plot to terrorise bosses of an Indian restaurant, a jury found.
Laura yesterday put her head in her hands and wept as he was convicted of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, after a five-week trial.
Charles’ plot hatcher half-brother Nathaniel St Aimie, 48, previously admitted the same charge.
CCTV shows a hooded gunman getting out of a white Volkswagen van before walking 50 yards towards the business and opening fire.
It was “good fortune” that none of the diners, including kids, were hurt as a shotgun blast shattered a window at PBK curry house in Greenford, West London, Kingston crown court heard.

Diners dived for cover and tried to protect children in the restaurant as the gunman opened fire.
Charles, St Aimie and two co-defendants will be sentenced next month.
Members of the defendants’ families gasped from the public gallery.
The four men will be sentenced on 15 September at Kingston Crown Court.

Judge Jonathan Davies said: “I was moved to see [from the CCTV] one of the adult customers moved to protect their child that was good to see, that his first thought was to protect the child who on the face of it came to no harm.”
