- Matt Grocott, 38, found the magazine at a home in Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire
- He said it was ‘funny timing’ given the upcoming coronation of King Charles III
A landscaper was amazed to unearth a hidden ‘time capsule’ with a magazine inside it celebrating the Queen Mother’s 90th birthday.
Matt Grocott, 38, was working on a property in Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, when he and a colleague noticed a glass jar and a plastic bag buried inside a stone wall.
Mr Grocott discovered the magazine celebrating the 90th birthday of the Queen Mother inside an ‘old-style’ Tesco bag alongside a coffee jar filled with a photo, letter and old coins.
The magazine was dated August 4, 1990 and Mr Grocott said it was a ‘nice bit of nostalgia’ to discover it because it included advertisements for some of his favourite childhood films.
He added it was ‘funny timing’ given the upcoming coronation of King Charles III and he shared the findings with the homeowner and neighbours.

He said: ‘I thought it was funny timing given the coronation is coming up. If it had been only six centimetres or so to the left, we would never have found it.
‘There was this old coffee jar that it was inside, with some perishable letters. We’d found a few jars or bottles before so it was exciting to find something different.
‘We showed the jar to the home owner Emily, who is about the same age as me. The neighbours also heard us talking about it and said they had also found some time capsules.
‘The houses had been built together as one big house and then divided a while back so they think the builder who built and owned it must have hidden them all.

‘After we found the jar, we looked a bit more and found this big bag. It looked like a sort of construction refuge bag or something – but inside it was another plastic bag.
‘It was an old-style Tesco bag, it had that older Tesco logo font from the 1980s. We opened that, and that’s where we found the magazine.
‘It was really nice because I think when it was buried I must have been about six years old.
‘Because it was a TV magazine, it was highlighting all of these old shows and films we used to watch as kids.
‘It was a nice bit of nostalgia. Especially because on the back it was advertising old VHS tapes of films like Terminator, Rain Man, Lethal Weapon and Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker.
‘I think it had been there since about August 1990, and everything was really well preserved. It’s quite amazing really – we’ve never found anything like it.’
