An Indiana man admitted to killing his girlfriend’s 2-month-old baby by holding him face-down in a bassinet — because the infant spat milk on him, police said.

Dakota L. King, 19, of Bloomington, was arrested late Tuesday on a murder charge after the boy was rushed to a hospital in “very poor health,” Bloomington police said in a news release.

The child then died as officers arrived at the hospital, where staffers said the boy’s relatives and King made several inconsistent statements about the child, including about visible injuries to his face.

The boy’s family later told investigators that King had yelled at the child and squeezed him to get the infant to stop crying. King then put him face-down in a bassinet and used his hand to shove the baby’s face into the bedding, investigators learned.

King later admitted to police that he became enraged earlier in the day when the boy spat milk on his clothing. He told investigators that he left the boy inside the bassinet until his mother returned home from work and found that he wasn’t breathing, police said.

A reddish-brown stain was also found on the bassinet that appeared to be blood, which correlates with the visible injuries found on the child’s face at the hospital, police said.

An autopsy was completed Wednesday and results are pending, Capt. Ryan Pedigo told The Post.

King remained in custody Thursday at the Monroe County Jail. He’s scheduled to appear for a probable cause hearing Thursday afternoon, the Indianapolis Star reported.
