This luxury recording studio turned townhouse where Sir Elton John recorded Candle in the Wind as a tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales, has been put for sale for £1.9 million pounds.
The former Virgin recording studios, aptly named ‘Townhouse Studios’ had been created by Richard Branson for his Virgin record label in 1978. Prior to that the building housed the Goldhawk Film Studios.
The building served as a ‘London residential’ with studios, mastering rooms, accommodation, a canteen as well as recreation rooms all under one roof.
Artists that recorded at The Town House included Elton John, Queen, Phil Collins, The Jam, Coldplay, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams among many others.

An emotional Sir Elton John had performed Candle In The Wind at Princess Diana’s funeral.
The pair were good friends before her death in 1997 and Elton John said Diana was not open with her friends had been ‘airy fairy’ with them.
He told VH1 RocDoc ‘Me, Myself and I’: ‘I think in the end with Diana she trusted the wrong people.
‘She didn’t trust the people she should have trusted, her true friends.
‘I always thought the people that really felt for her and really were true to her she just was a bit airy fairy towards in the end.’
Sir Elton, who told how he found out about Diana’s death through a fax sent by a friend offering condolences the next morning, became emotional while watching footage of the funeral.
